Unicode conversion error

Hi All,

In the process of doing a unicode conversion, we didnot use the export/import method.

We are trying to perform the unicode conversion using backup/restore method.

We have taken a successful backup on the source system which is NON-UNICODE and restored the same on the UNICODE system.

the database of the unicode system is up and running but R/3 is not coming up as there is a difference in the character set. i.e.. the source parameter value is WE8DEC which exists in the target system after resorting the soruce backup.

but the enviornment variable on the target system is set to UTF8.

I need to update the nls_character set form WE8DEC to UFT8 at database level by updating the view "V$NLS_PARAMETER"

The same is converted when we use SAPinst. Can anyone help me to change the parameter value without using SAPinst and only using oracle.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Chakri.

Hi Chakri,

You cannot perform a Unicode conversion via a backup/restore. You can only perform a Unicode conversion via export/import.
