BoM item and components in BOM Item Category Group

Dear Gurus,

Could you please let me know the difference between BoM Item and Components. As below staements are saying BoM item is priced and components are not priced for different item categories

I came to know ERLA/LUMF can be used as item category group for Bill of Material configuration.

But got confused with the below mentioned item categories.

1.If the item category group is LUMF the system shows price for the components but not for the BOM item. For this the following customizing setting is required.

A) The item category of the BOM item is TAP which is not relevant for pricing, so the BOM item is not Priced.

B) The item category of the components is TAN which is relevant for pricing, so the components are priced

2.If the item category group is ERLA the system shows price for the BOM item but not for components. For this following customizing setting is required.

A) The item category of BOM item is TAQ, which is relevant for pricing, so the BOM is priced.

B) The item category of components is TAE which is not relevant for pricing, so the components are not priced.

Regards,

Sridhar,

Hi,

Item means header level in the BOM.

Component means item level in BOM.

For example, a PC is made up of the components monitor, CPU, keyboard, and printer. These components are all salable materials that can be manufactured separately. In the sales order, you want to see the individual components that make up the computer as order items, as well as the whole computer.

Yes your findings are right.

BOM item means it will be at  header level and components will be under that header material or item.

The above statements are true.

The difference between BOM item and the components

BOM item is a assembled item and the components are individually shown in the child level under the parent item.
