As this is by default an MM feature I have posted a blog about my experiences at the MM space.
Nevertheless QM is usually also affected by batch management, and in case quality issues occur you might want to find out quickly where your batch has been built into. In this case the batch history functionality might be interesting for you.

Update: With note 1734684 SAP provides a report (RVBOBJTABCUST) which fills the customizing with standard values. This makes the setup of batch history much easier, as you can load predefined values and adapt them to your needs.
