Hi
I m planning to perform SAP Archiving , but currently m using SAP R/3 4.7 so i have certain questions
1) Is that possible on my current relase which is SAP 4.7 ?
2) If m planning to do upgrade then should i perform after my upgrade or before upgrading it to ecc 6.0 ehp 5 ?
3) Pre requsites of archiving like content server and all
regards
IGL
Hi IGL,
Apart from what has already been stated and which I agree I would like to add one point. If upgrade involves unicode conversion then it would be a good idea to do the archiving beforehand to reduce the DB size so as to reduce export/import time but I would really worry about it if the DB size is pretty big. Please note archiving itself would take some time for set up and execution.
Regards.
Ruchit.

Absolutely.

Archiving is a pretty complex porcess and a project of its own. You need to analize with the LOB's what objects will your company will consider archiving based on the performance gains rather than the space saving. Also your team should take into consideration the company document retention policies an the contry legislation.
Having said that if you have enough time to complete an archiving project before your upgrade the benefits are there. Your system should have no problem to retrieve data post-upgrade from your content repository.
3) Pre requsites of archiving like content server and all
Well, beside all that I said before, you certainly need a content repository. The rest of the configuration is based on the archiving objects selected.

Hi,
yes, it is possible to archive data on SAP release 4.7.
You can archive before the upgrade, which will reduce the upgrade time.
Please refer to the following useful documentation:
