BICS connection in Information Design Tool

Former Member

Hi Experts;

I've a requirement to build universes for BO Explorer. I read that BOE 4.0 supports only unx universes. Since my source is BW and BO4 doesn't support OLAP universe conversion yet, i decided to build a new unx universe. I'm new to Information Design Tool. While trying to create an OLAP connection using BICS to connect to SAP BW system (BW 7.0), the tool gets stuck at the 'Cube Selection' screen after i give BW connection details. Looks like it faces issues connecting to BW system. I don't get any error messages; so not sure what's happening. Every time, I've to kill the process from task manager.

Has anybody faced similar issue? Please advise.

SAP BO BI 4.0

BW 7.0

Thanks!

Hello Arun,

You cannot create a Business Layer using  Bex query based on OLAP Connection in IDT.

This is because, you .UNX does not support OLAP connection.

Please follow the workaround given in the KBA: 1603409

Hope this is of some help.

You will need to build Relational Connection for BW. However, this will not work with the version of your BW. Your BW needs to be above 7.01 Support Package 5.

1. In Information Design tool, on the left bottom side where you can see your server connections, right click on the connections folder and select "Insert Relational Connection". You have to do this in "Repository Resources" window otherwise you are not able to see connection type in the next step.

2. Give a connection name and click next.

3. Select SAP > SAP NetWeaver BW > SAP Java Connector (JCO)

4. Fill out the required fields and select your infoprovider.

It sounds to me like you need a UNX for Explorer, with BW as your datasource.

You need a BW-SQL relational (potentially 'multisource') universe.
