Hello, gurus.

Having little problem.

I install fresh distributed system NW7.3. ASCS instance does not start, says

startsap

Starting Startup Agent sapstartsrv

FAIL: Timeout

Startup of Instance Service failed

See /home/sidadm/startsap_ASCS90.log for details

Content of /home/sidadm/startsap_ASCS90.log:

Trace of system startup/check of SAP System SID on Thu May  3 19:10:47 MSK 2012

Called command: /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/uc/linuxx86_64/startsap start

I can see this message in /var/log/messages

May  3 18:06:15 hostname SAPSID_90[13464]: Unable to open trace file sapstartsrv.log. (Error 13 Permission denied) [ntservsserver.cpp 3231]

Tried kernels 7.20 patch 68 and 201. I'm on RHEL5 x86_64

Please help.

even if it could not open that log file, it should not stopped the instance altogether. Try scouring work directory for more detail error.

Hello,

You can check a few things.

1. Does your <SID>adm have write permission to work folder where the log sapstartsrv.log is written.

2. You can try to manually start the service using the below command

sapcontrol -nr <Instance number> -function StartService

3. Check the entires in /usr/sap/sapservices

This would not cause the instance to fail.

What errors are you getting in dev_disp.log and dev_w0.log?

Hi,

Could you please check if the sidadm user has permission to the work folder

/usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS??/work

Thank you for your answer.

User sidadm has permission to write to work folder.

He had not permission to write to /tmp.
