Why is the GUI not freely downloadable?

Hi,

I am an ABAP programmer, working for a small contractor. We are not a partner nor a customer. But I do visit 15 (small to medium sized) customers regularly with my laptop and connect to their systems on-site and remotely. I have no S-user, hence it is impossible for me to download the GUI and patches. I think this is very strange. Does anyone know why SAP does not release this software into the piublic domain? Without a back-end it cannot really be used for anything anyway.

Hope this makes someone think, at least I got my frustration vented

Hello,

SAP GUI for Windows is included in part 2 of the "SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.02 SP6 32-bit Trial" download.

Please note, that it is a stripped down version, where some third party components have been removed due to licensing issues.

You are right, unfortunately the included gui has an ancient patchlevel...
