Nana,

Here's how to think of the components you mention.  ESS/MSS is presenting data as a portal from a back-end datasource (assuming SAP ERP / ECC).  TREX indexes particular content in the ESS/MSS portal for end-users based on specific configurations that have been performed to achieve better performance.  If TREX is removed or unavailable, that shouldn't break the ESS/MSS portal but will have performance side effects at a minimum.  The webdispatcher allows load balancing between multiple ESS/MSS portals based on the the webdispatcher profile configuration.

With the webdispatcher configured and running, users would access the webdispatcher URL as opposed to the ESS/MSS portal directly to login.  If the webdispatcher is down, users will still be able to access the ESS/MSS portal directly unless additional configuration is performed to limit access.
