Backup problem on MSCS (Oracle & backint)

Former Member

Hello!

My configuration:
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition (Service Pack 2)
One MSCS cluster with two nodes.
Oracle 11.2.0.2
BR * Tools 7.20 (23)
SAP NetWeaver 2004s (
SAP_BASIS 700 SP25)

Symantec BackupExec 2010R2 (SP1) & SAP Agent (Backint)

Problem Description:
After upgrading the database from version 10.2.0.4 to version 11.2.0.2 backups stopped working.
I can not use DB13 & Brtools to run a backup with a util_file because:
BR0279E Return code from 'BACKINT BWP-u-f backup-and R:\oracle\BWP\sapbackup\.Beijzqlz.lst-t file-p C😕oracle\BWP\11202\database\backint\dbonline\biparam.ini -c ': 2
BR0231E Backup utility call failed

Other servers that are not in the MSCS, after upgrading to Oracle 11.2.0.2 works fine with DB13 and BRTools.

After analyzing the processes occurring in the system after the initiation of a backup job, brbackup and BACKINT starts with good parameters, but unfortunately they end up right away when they call. I noticed one process that does not exist for the same task on servers in MSCS cluster that have not yet been upgraded to version 11.2.0.2 and where backup tasks work correctly with parameter util_file (see below).

Why this additional process occur? It seems that the rest of the processes is killed by him?

Cluster MSCS, two nodes, Oracle 11.2:

Other cluster MSCS, two nodes, Oracle 10.2 (backup works):

Implemented SAP notes:

Note 657999 - Installing a Standalone Gateway in an MSCS Environment

Note 134592 - Importing the SAPDBA role (sapdba_role.sql)

Other:

OPS$ mechanism works.

I tried to debug backint:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH23588

However, the use of this parameter does not whrk.

Please, help!

Hi Krzysztof,

Please check the retrun codes relevant here for the backup termination

According to the trace, the backint process is called, and
the backup program, which appears to be Networker, is
not responding with any information to backint.

Therefore, you will need to contact the supplier of the backup program
and find out what is failing in the backup job within Networker.

Note 17163 has this same information for your reference.

Once the backup job is working, you should find that the backint
process will get a response from Networker, and the job can be
called with success from brtools.

Regards,

Naveen.

We use Symantec BackupExec 2010R2 (not EMC Networker).

BackupExec is on the other machine in the network (look at localization biparam.ini -> http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO23258 ). Backup server is reachable from the SAP server.

I attach a file brbackup.txt when You can show what is happens when I try to execute brbackup from brtools.

I noticed that brconnect trying to write a file R:\oracle\BWP\sapbackup\.beikeqtm.brc but this file does not appear there (permissions are ok).

When i manually execute a command (on bwpadm user): C:\WINDOWS\SapCluster\brconnect.exe -R 416 > R:\oracle\BWP\sapbackup\.beikeqtm.brc file .beikeqtm.brc show me:

BR0801I BRCONNECT 7.20 (23)

PID=272

BR0252E Function fopen() failed for 'R:\oracle\BWP\sapbackup\.user.pas' at location global_set-1

BR0253E errno 2: No such file or directory

But .user.pas file on that directory is not exist 😕

I've read Note 656365 - Error due to missing BRCONNECT functions but it does not correspond to this situation, because brconnect is in version 7.20 (23)

Hello,

Does the backup work if started from the other node in the cluster.

Is the gateway service stinging OK?

Do you have errors in the standalone gateway trace?

Check the work directory in the standalone gateway folder

Ad 1. Backup does not start on any node in the cluster. The error is the same.

Ad 2. Gateway service starts without any problems.

Gateway is working properly because always tries to run the backup on the node where the database resides.

Ad 3. I do not have any errors in the standalone gateway trace.

Ad 4. Please view the attachments (sapstart.log, sapstartsrv.log, dev_rd.log).

I think that the problem is not related to the gateway...

I found soulution:

"Oracle 11g on a MSCS cluster with Oracle failsafe is currently not supported until Backup Exec 2010. Upgrade the media server to Backup Exec 2012"

😕

Thx for help...
