What have caused a MailServer message with 3kb attachement became 1G when processed in Integration Engine?

Hi Fellow SDN,

We have encountered an issue in PI where a message sent thru a mailserver with only 3kb message size became 1G when processed in integration Engine.

This have caused the message to remain Stuck due to its large message size and it is also blocking other messages flowing in the queue. We tried to open the payload in IE but we cant and its also causing a dump in ST22.

Does anyone of you encountered the same issue? what have caused this issue?

Hi,

That is a really weird problem. At first is interesting to know you PI version and patch level.

Second, it's necesary to find where the message is increasing of size. I suppose that you are using a MAIL-???? scenario and you are doing any mapping. My first question is, does the message reach to the message mapping?, if the answer is yes, you should check the message before the map, and in the mapping if you are dealing with attachment in a UDF for example, something could be wrong.

If the problem comes before the mapping may be you should the tool TCP Gateway to monitorizing Note 856599 - FAQ: XI 3.0 / PI 7.0 / PI 7.1 Mail Adapter and you should see also the traces pointed at finally of this note in this question:

Q: Which are the trace locations that should be enabled for Mail Adapter?

Let us to know how your problem is going and what says the traces.

Regards and good luck.

Hi Raja,

Unfortunately we are not able to get the payload from I.E. the transaction freezes and causes dumps on ST22.

Hi Praveen,

- Yes. in QA it only produce normal file size.

- Yes. our QA is of the same version and SP.

- both JDK is 1.3

Hi Fellows,

Apolgies for the late reply. Please refer below for additional details

1.) Version 7.0 SP12

2.) Message flow 3PLP>Mailserver>XI>R/3

3.) Partner sends and EDI file via email attachment

4.) MailServer contains BIC module converting the EDI file to XML format

the message did arrive to IE, however it was not processed due to its large message size ~1G.

we are suspecting that the looping happens in the BIC mapping convertion. unfortunately we are not able to replicate the issue in QA.

Download payload from MONI and check the size , after that compare the EDI message payload with Moni message.

It looks Adapter level bBIC modules behaving weird manner.

Best Regards,

Raj

Do you mean the QA system is not producing such huge message (1 GB) and it is creating only a normal expected size?

Q)Does QA & production systems are in sync in terms of PI version and service packs (especially related Java)?

>>we are suspecting that the looping happens in the BIC mapping convertion

I guess you might be using some BIC mapping tool to generate a module. What java version does it used? It can be due to an higher java version compilation of the code.

That is not possible. Do you have attachment in sender source message?  The issue might be in the mapping area as the previous expert pointed out. Check the pipeline steps to provide more details. WHat is your target message format? Are you doing multimapping or so? Check any loop logic in UDF adds many nodes occurence by fault in the target structure.
