Installing NW73 on OpenSuSE 12.1

Former Member

Hi,

first of all: I know it is not supported to install SAP on OpenSuSE - but I am trying anyhow

I get stuck in the installation procedure in step "Install instance basics of ASCS01". Reason is, the instance is not starting up, in this case, the message server starts fine, the enqueue server does not start. So I tried to start it manually, but this first let to unset parameter LD_LIBRARY_PATH, which I set to /usr/lib64. Then the unicode libraries libic*.so.34.0 were missing (only version 48 were present) so I coppied them from another existing SLES installation. After that the enqueue server tells me the following:

linsrv04:/usr/sap/NW3/ASCS01/work # ./en.sapNW3_ASCS01

pf=/usr/sap/NW3/SYS/profile/NW3_ASCS01_linsrv04

Running not on Windows, nothing additional to do

Listen successful on port/service sapdp01

Server initialisation failed!

  Reason: "error at server initialisation detected at enservglob.cpp:812

Errorinfo: "initialize_global: failed to initialize the enqueue table:

rc=8

""

and here I get stuck. i also checked the /etc/services and disabled all entries in the SAP number range. Does anybody have any hints?

Regards

Mike

Hi Mike,

LD_LIBRARY_PATH : for which user did u set/unset the value. Finally I hope it is trial installation only and not one of actual productive usage. If productive usage please choose from SAP's stable of supported operating systems.

Hi Ruchit,

no, of course it´s not for an productive environment Just for learning purposes.

The environment variable was set for user root and AFTER sapinst has been started. For installations using SLES the missing variable was promted as a missing prerequisite in sapinst.

Do you thnk, it´s because this was not set vor SIDADM?

Hi Mike,

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is a concern for <sid>adm and ora<sid>. For root it shouod not be a concern. SAP runs of <sid>adm and not root so the env variables for these users are important. Normally SAPinst would set them automatically.

Hi Ruchit,

I did set it for all users ... no effect, same error. Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi Mike,

That wasn't my point 🙂

LD_LIBRARY_PATH would be set by SAPinst automatically for all SAP related OS users. You shouldn't normally be changing this. Secondly for <sid>adm  LD_LIBRARY_PATH points to kernel directory. Infact there is an OSS note of this. Having said this looks more like an enqueue server problem with ASCS installation. Check the logs in detail and publish them. Partiularly the enqueue specific logs in instance work directory.

Hi Mike,

Did you ever resolve this issue?  I only ask as I too am having a play with SUSE 12.1 and I'm stuck at the same point you were.

Hi Shaun,

no, I gave up. I think it´s not worth the effort. Later on you get some errors which say that you use a not supported distribution. Maybe CentOS would be better, it´s a RHES clone.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the update.  Like you I managed to push a head through a number of issues, but eventually got to a point where the novely wore off.

I've reimplemented on SELS 11.2 and the installation when through without a hitch.

Cheers

Shaun
