Configuring inbound email

Hi,

Would anyone be able to tell me if NetWeaver 7.3 still requires SAP Exchange Connector in order to accept inbound mail from Microsoft Exchange email servers?  I need to test inbound email on ERP, but was told by the email guys here that Exchange cannot route messages  to non-Exchange servers when Exchange is the authoritative source for that domain. 

If anyone could give me any additional information, that would be greatly appreciated.

It seems that some kind of connector is needed.
