Installation Oracle 10g on windows server 2008 R2

Dear SAP  Gurus ,

I have to install oracle 10g on Microsoft windows server 2008 R2 (No HA configuration)

I have gone through documentation that Oracle10g does not support windows server2008 R2(X86_64) and needs minimum 10.2.0.5 version

Since from SAP site i can not see any dump to directly install 10.2.0.5   So i have to first install 10.2.0.4 then upgrade patchset to 10.2.0.5

I am confused from which CD i should start installation as some SDN link and SAP note 1486772says start with

CD (51036975 ORACLE 10.2.0.4 Failsafe Server 3.4.1.5 Windows 2008) But i do not have HA configuration so shall  i use this one or not.

And do i need to download below CDs as some SAP note says that it is not possible to install Oracle 10.2.0.2 and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.4

51031678_1 ORACLE RDBMS 10.2 Windows 1 of 5

51031678_2 ORACLE RDBMS 10.2 Windows 2 of 5

51031678_3 ORACLE RDBMS 10.2 Windows 3 of 5

51031678_4 ORACLE RDBMS 10.2 Windows 4 of 5

51031678_5 ORACLE RDBMS 10.2 Windows 5 of 5

51036971_4 ORACLE RDBMS Patch 10.2.0.4 Windows Server on x64 64bit

So basically which Cds shold i download from SMP to install oracle 10g on Microsoft windows server 2008 R2(x86_64)

Also in Service market place ---> Software downloads-->Date base Patches-->Oracle -->Oracle 10.2.0.5--->Database RDBMS-->MS Windows X86_64(64 Bit)  There are 2 patch files apart from generic patches

10205_Patch12_MSWIN-x86-64.zip

10205_Patch14_MSWIN-x86-64.zip

At Service market place ---> Software downloads-->Date base Patches-->Oracle---> On the right side of screen we can see Oracle 10.2 Software (64-bit)  Installation-->Microsoft windows-->Oracle Database-->There i can see below patches

51040057_4 ORACLE RDBMS Patch 10.2.0.5 Windows Server on x64 64bit

51041676_4 ORACLE RDBMS Patch 10.2.0.5 Windows Server on x64 64bit

Is their any difference between among two patches.  And which one i should use if i am installing Fresh Oracle10g

Regards

Hi

Which product/solution you're planning to install? (eg: ECC,PI,etc). To ge the details on OS & DB availability for a particular product you need to check the following link:

service.sap.com/pam

As for the confusion in downloading and installing oracle patches kindly refer the below sapnote:

1431752 - Oracle 10.2.0: Patches/Patch Collections for 10.2.0.5

Also refer the sapnote:1654734 for additional info on oracle patchset.

Dear Imran

Thanks for reply !!!!!!

I am going to install NW CE 711  on Windows server 2008 R2.I checked from PAM requirement forthe same is Oracle 10.2.0.5.

Since on Windows server it is not possible  to install 10.2 and then aply patchset 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 due to compatiblity issue of Windows server 2008 and Oracle 10g so i was hust wondering how can we directly install 0racle 10.2.0.4 or which CD i need to download.

But note 1486772 says we need to download

RDBMS DVD #51036975 (ORACLE 10.2.0.4 Failsafe Server 3.4.1.5, this DVD includes

the database and the Failsafe component). So i had confusion whether we should go with this or not as we do not have HA configuration.

So i will install as per sap note 1486772

Dear Chang

Thanks for the reply!!!

I am not sure which way to proceed now as SAP note says proceed with failsafe DVD

and other links also suggest that it is not possible to install alower version of oracle and patch it later.

Hi,

You dont need failsafe if you just want to install a central instance with 10g. Just download the media and give it a go. Refer to the installation guide./

Hi,

1st of all, you need to install Oracle on window server 2008 with

ORACLE10.2.0.4FailsafeServer3.4.1.5Windows2008

Then install the Oracle Patch with 51040057_4

after that you have to apply oracle patches with following sequence.

1. Opatch

opatch-102051

2. Generic Patch

p8350262_10205_Generic (first apply this one then remaining Generic Patch)

3. MSWIN

10205_Patch12_MSWIN-x86-64.zip

10205_Patch14_MSWIN-x86-64.zip (download latest patch)

Hi,

As per Note 1486772 - SAP Systems on Windows Server 2008 R2 -> oracle, you need to use RDBMS DVD #51036975 which is with failsafe server. Just use the media to install oracle 10.2.0.4. You need not to install failsafe if you are not using HA - MSCS.

Apologize for the confusion earlier.

Cheers,

Dear Ma Jamil

Yesterday only i have successfully installed Oracle 10g on Windows server 2008 R2.

I followed below sequence:

1 Downloaded Failsafe DVDD:  RDBMS DVD #51036975 which is with failsafe server as per SAP note 1486772 and replace sapserver.cmd.But I was not able to start installation with this file

2:Add Tag and OS version in below files

\dumps\Oracle 10.2.0.4\database\install\oraparam.ini : Change entry Windows=5.0,5.1,5.2,6.0 to Windows=5.0,5.1,5.2,6.0,6.1

\dumps\Oracle 10.2.0.4\database\stage\prereq\db\refhost.xml: Include a tag for 6.1 also.

C:\dumps\Oracle 10.2.0.4\database\stage\prereq\db_prereqs\db\refhost.xml: Include a tag for 6.1 also.

3: Started setup.exe

4 Installed oracle 10.2.0.4 directly

5:Applied patchset 10.2.0.5

6:Applied generic patches with Opatch tool

hi Basis TCS,

1. I hope, if you download 51036975 then no need to change the tag.

2. If oracle and their patches(Generic, MSWin) successfully applied and you did not get the error in OPatch, then you have to run catupgrd.sql and utlrp.sql files.

For any further query, please feel free to contact me

gud to see that your problem is resolved and completed this thread for other SCN users.

Hi,

Below are the correct media to install 10g.

However, i dont think you need ORACLE RDBMS Patch 10.2.0.4 where you can upgrade to ORACLE RDBMS Patch 10.2.0.5 directly.

Once your database is patched to 10.2.0.5, you can apply generic patches on top of it. Generic patches just like updated software packages where contain bug fixes and etc.

Hope it helps,

Nicholas Chang
