BI 4.0 - Usage of Infoproviders

Hi friends,

As we know that we can use Infoproviders/BEX queries directly to build a WEBI report. My question is if we use Infoproviders directly for building a WEBI report then how can we use the variables/SAP exit variables/Custom Variables? Is BEX necessary for such scenarios?? Kindly confirm.

Thanks.
Gaurav

Hi,

there is good reason for using BEx as a 'semantic layer' to filter datasets from BW cubes. the results could be so large that the application would fail.  so that's why BICS for webi points to Bex queries.

However, you can use the BW-SQL multisource relational UNX universe (using Data federator Query server) which goes direct to the source Infoproviders (infotargets).  Of course, you will lose OLAP engine functionalities (hierarchies for example) and also Variables (esp. a concer if using  'process by' Authorization variables).

the Analysis-for-OLAP product however, can browse the cube directly using the BICS connection.

You would have to ask your BW BASIS / DHWM expert to see if variables can be defined on infocubes. (i think this may be an emerging feature)

Webi Report
1)Data source only using universe.

2)can modify the report so that is dynamic report.

Crystal Report

1)can retrieve the data from any where like universe, excel

Sheet.....

2)used for day to day transaction processing like

banking,sales..

3)is static report can't modified.
