Hello,
I want to get all PRD data into our QAS system
What i plan to do is by using a "PRD full offline backup" , needs to recreate the QAS System
In other words -> Get the PRD backup and Restore it to the QAS System
Is this is the thing known as homogenous system copy ?
Kindly guide me how to do this; (Get the PRD backup and Restore it to the QAS System)
(Because of Large DB size in PRD, its impossible to export data from PRD and import back to QAS)
Current statistics and versions are as follows;
(On both servers)
O/S - SLES 10 SP3
DB - Oracle 10.2.0.4
PRD DB Size - 270GB
(PSAPSR3 has 20 Datafiles)
SID - PRD
QAS DB Size - 160 GB
(PSAPSR3 has 15 Datafiles)
SID - QAS
What will happen if i restore , PRD Full Offline backup to QAS using brtools? (using brtools options 1 = Complete database recovery)
Will QAS functioning as another new client, after restoring data .
What are the changes needs to be done to work the QAS. - Like changing the SID...
kindly guide me with this process
regards,
zerandib
Hi Zerandib,

Yes, it is a homogeneous copy
>> Will QAS functioning as another new client, after restoring data .
Because of the whole database has been copied, the QA system will have as same SAP client numbers as PROD.
>> What are the changes needs to be done to work the QAS. - Like changing the SID...
It will show difference regarding your requests. But, by standard copy procedures, changing SID will be enough. You can find the further information in the path, below;
http://service.sap.com/instguides -> SAP Netweaver -> SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) -> Installation
Then, find the "System Copy" headline then read the guide that is most suitable with your needs.

hi Orkun,
I have gone though Note 11692 - Renaming the system ID
Please let me know ,how to do this
Say, we have restore the PRD offline backup to QAS using brtools.
brtools -> Restore and recovery -> Complete Database Recovery
When and where it will need to change the system ID?
Do we need to change the SID in Database or is it in init<SID>.ora file
Will this do ;
sqlplus /nolog
connect / as sysdba
create spfile from pfile;
kindly guide how to do this.

zerandib
Hi Zerandib,
All you need to do is, following the system copy guide that I noted in my previous message. Everything is explained very well in the document.
Additionally, you don't need to work with those procedures.. "orabrcopy" will handle everything that you need to rename the database SID.

Hi zerandib.
Another suggestion is using method as per sap note 1003028 -> 2. Enhanced support for homogenous database copies.
Cheers,
Ivy
