SAP GUI for use with Testdrives?

I have a pair of Linux Testdrives (N4S SapNetweaver 2004s (DB2) and N4S SapNetweaver 2004s (MaxDB)) which are used for BC-XOM testing & certification.  I've been running them through the Java GUI on both Windows XP and Mac OS X.  We're about to recertify our BC-XOM interface and refresh documentation and sales materials.  The GUIs I have, 7.10rev11, are fine for the testing, but continue to exhibit a problem with properly displaying wide data, as noted in JAVA GUI window content does not fill out when window is enlarged (Win,Mac) , which makes the output display poorly and be less presentable for a sales video.  (If anyone else has seen this problem or better yet, has a solution, please comment on that thread!!)

I'd like to download the latest version of the Java GUI and see if this is fixed, or try the Windows native version.  (Or find alternatives.) The FTP location where I'd previously downloaded the GUI went away.  Going through http://service.sap.com/swdc >  browse our download catalog ... installations and upgrades > SAP Frontend components usually hangs.  The download links in http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-25456#section31 fail, indicating that there are no downloads available for my account because:

  • Missing or incomplete software licenses/data base licenses
  • Restricted availability of several application components

This and the recent thread SAP GUI (Mac Environment) suggests a licensed system is now necessary to get the GUI.  (My S-USER authorization's tab has a "Software download" bullet point.  Should that do it?)

Questions:

  1. Is it still possible to get the SAP GUI for use with Testdrives?
  2. If so, what is needed? (What am I doing wrong?)
  3. If not, alternatives? (Web interface? We do have a copy of the Windows MiniSAP, but that web interface looks positively ancient!)

Thanks!

Rich

Hello Richard, you should be able to download SAPGUI for Java 7.20 (latest version)

from the below location.

You just require a service marketplace login.

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-25456#section31

Jude

Hi Jude,

As I noted, http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-25456#section31 failed for me.

Does "should" mean that SAP has said somewhere that people without regular licensed systems can download a testdrive AND the GUI?

Edit: I just attempted to download SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP 7.02 SP6 32-bit Trial Version.  The download did attempt to start (I canceled it in my browser), so it would seem that I have download privileges.

Thanks!

Rich

Hello Rich,

I am not familiar with the testdrives in detail, but I am trying to help to the best of my knowledge.

The testdrives you are refering to are available on the download pages of SCN.

Those are supposted to be downloaded from everyone who has a user in SCN and come with a special trial license.

In contrary to that, the packages available for download from Service Marketplace are for commercial usage. For this, a user in Service Marketplace is required with the permissions described in note 1037574.

The link where to find the downloads of SAP GUIs provided to you before, is in SCN, but from there the URLs point into locations inside Service Marketplace. The reason why the downloads of SAP GUIs do not work for you is likely connected to missing permissions of your user in Service Marketplace. Please double check like described in the note mentioned above.

Best regards

Rolf-Martin

It was indeed a matter of permissions.
