Problem installing TREX with netWeaver Portal

Former Member

Hi all, I've got a little problem using TREX: I just successfully installed Netveaver Portal and TREX with one instance. The problem is that when I go to System Administration>monitoring> Knowledge Management>TREX Monitor, I got a error message:

Runtime Error
An exception occured while processing the request.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additional information: null
Exception ID = 60381a5f-ea98-2910-8888-b6c2b3e08f40

I read the help and did whatever needed to be, like connexion parameter in configtools.bat specfying my host and the port.

Did someone go into the same problem ? Thanks you all.

Did you start your name server? Any errors within the TREX Admin Console?

Ok, just a few checks:

the port in the trex admin tool the port is 30301?!

Did you restart the IIS after installation of TREX

I don't have any IIS server installed on my machine, just a Java server...And the port is set to 30301.

really strange.

I only know the testing in the portal.

But I will have a look at my documentation when I am at home later today. Then I will post again...

do you have a local firewall or a port blocker or something like that?

Well I just turned off Kaspersky to do my tests...Nothing else...Strange, isnt'it ? Is there a tool that can let me know if the link between TREX and my Portal is active, instead of testing it directly in the portal ??

Ok, can you login with the SIDadm of your TREX? And then start the TREX Admin Tool?

Is everything fine there?

Everything seems to be find there, except from the log I just posted before here. Which panel should I watch to make sure everything's fine in trex view ??

I already checked that before posting on the board, it was in the installation guide of TREX. I put:

tcpip://localhost:30301 ==>did'nt work

tcpip://P231XP06PA:30301 ==>did'nt work (P231XP06PA is the name of my machine

Since I installed the portal on my local machine, I assume locahost should be fine...

The only thing I'm suprised in, is that I dont get any error message, but a simple "runtime error". If the problem is only that I did'nt put the address and the right port, it would tell me so!

What do you think ?

You have to specify the address of the TREX name server in the SAP NetWeaver Visual Administrator by naming the following values <host_name_of_trex_host>:<name_server_port>:

● <host_name_of_trex_host>: name of the host on which TREX is installed and where the TREX name server runs.

● <name_server_port>: port of the TREX name server

1. You can determine the TREX name server address in two ways:

a. Start the TREX admin tool (see Starting the TREX Admin Tool [Page 71]) and determine the address of the name server using Landscape → Tree → topology → globals → all_masters.

For example: mytrexhost:34801

b. Determine the port of the TREX name server by means of the following rule: <name_server_port>: 3<instance_number>01

The value <instance_number> signifies the TREX instance number which had been specified during the TREX installation:

Installation directory for TREX

■ On UNIX /usr/sap/<sapsid>/trx<instance_number>

■ On Windows <disk_drive>:\usr\sap\<SAPSID>\TRX<instance_number>

The value for <host_name_of_trex_host> you know from the host where TREX is installed (mytrexhost).

2. Use the user <j2eeadm> to log onto the host on which the J2EE Engine is running.

3. Start the SAP NetWeaver Visual Administrator and log on to the J2EE Engine.

4. Click Cluster and navigate to Services → TREX Service.

5. Enter the address of the TREX name server into the parameter nameserver.address.

tcpip://<host_name_of_trex_host>:<name_server_port>

You enter only the host name or the host name and the domain depending on your network environment.

tcpip://mytrexhost:34801 or tcpip://mytrexhost.mydomain:34801

The address of the TREX name server must be configured for all server processes of the cluster. Otherwise the connection between the J2EE Engine and TREX cannot be established.

6. Save your changes and confirm the restart of the service.
