Hi all,
We have BI 7.1 and it is non-noicode system. Customer now want to upgrade system from non-unicode to unicode. Now I have following questions:
1. Generally Unicode conversion is carried aout along with version upgrade. Hence I wish to know whether it is advisable to carry out ONLY Unicode conversion.
2. Please let me know if anybody has carried out Unicode conversion in a BW landscape.
3. I wish to know the details of functional testing involved in case of Unicode conversion in a BW landscape.
For performing Unicode conversion only for BI 7.1 system which guide I have to follow. If I am not wrong there should be separate guide for single code page and MDMP conversion. Please provide me Unicode conversion guide for both.

You can certainly do a unicode conversion on its own, you can find all the required documentation on SAP Marketplace, also read SAP Note 548016 - Conversion to Unicode

Hello Mohnish,
Unicode conversion is often carried out with version upgrade termed as CU&UC but this is not always the case.It is your choice or is subject to technicalities. For instance we can't perform a CU&UC if source system in less than 4.6 C directly without first upgrading to 4.6 C. Often in such cases only the upgrade is done to ECC 6.0 (EHPn) and then unicode conversion is carried out. There definitly would be many instances of upgrade being done separately and unicode converison being done separately.
Functional testing is something functional consultants can best address. Not an area of expertise for Basis admins. It anyways would be comprehensive testing of the system focusing on all activities that are normally performed.
Regards.
