Prateek,

There are two things in your question:
1. You want to add a language in your repository.
2. You want to add a language in MDM Language Selector tool.

Answer for 1st point:
If you want to add a language in repository then follow the step as mentioned below:

1. In the Console Hierarchy tree, Mount your Master Data Server.
2. In the Repositories pane, mount your repository, in which you want to add language.
3. In the Repository Detail pane, double-click on the Languages property. MDM opens a dual-list drop-down control for multiple-item selection.
4. To add a language, select the desired language in the Available Langauges list click the Add button.
5. Press Enter or click on the up triangle to close the drop-down control.
6. As soon as you hit Enter, MDM immediately prompts you to confirm that you really want to modify the repository languages. Click Yes to confirm the modification.
7. MDM modifies the repository language and the language will be added to the repository.

For more information, go through the Modify The Repository Language section in MDM Console reference guide, on page number: 325.

Answer for 2nd point:
If you want to add language in SAP MDM Langauage Selector tool then you should have to install the specific language in your machine. As MDM stores the user interface language setting in the Windows registry of the client workstation on which you set the language for the current user. Below thread explain, how to install language for the desired operating system: Installing Language.

For more infomation on Language Selector tool, go through: MDM Language Selector.

Hi,

Why are we adding languages in SAP MDM console if we can add the language using MDM language Selector?

Hi Rimpy,

The reasons are:

  • It is more user friendly
  • You can individually set the language for each Windows user on each client workstation using the MDM Language Selector utility.
  • You will be able to view different menu options header options, field properties , record details etc in the selected language in Console too.

Thanks,

Rimpy,

There are two following things:

1. Adding a language in the repository using MDM console, is required to change the language of data in MDM. Eg. If you add "German" language in repository using MDM Console then you can see your object/repository data into German language also.

2. Adding a language in MDM Language selector, is required to change the language of MDM Clients like Console, Data Manager etc. Eg. If you add "German" language in Language Selector and apply it then all the menus of MDM Clients like Console, DM etc, will be displayed in German language.

I am hopping, I have cleared your doubt

Hi Prateek,

Yes you can add fourth language to you repository.

Go to console->mount server->connect to rep(unload Rep)->then click on MDM server(here u wil get list of repositories->select the required Repository->in Rpository Detail pane go to language property and add the required language.

I dont think adding a new language will have any impact as long as you are not deleting or modifying existing language.
