SMO 2008 on SQL Server 2005?

Hi gurus,

I have SQL Server 2005 on SAP R3 4.7. I am installing a new Dell Compellent Storage and I want to use Compellent Replay Manager to have consistent snapshow of our SQL Server 2005 database of the R3 production system.

Unfortunately Compellent Replay Manager wants SMO 2008 (SQL Server Management Objects) to work, also if the server has SQL Server 2005. So in the event viewer of my SAP server I found the message error and it's written as solution to install SMO 2008 on SQL Server 2005. I ask you if it's possible or if it's necessary to migrate to SQL Server 2008 (big problem: it's necessary to migrate kernel and so on).

Best regards

Hello Gianni,

The main problem here is the minimum kernel required by SQL Server 2008 (note 1152240😞

  • For all SAP systems running on SQL Server 2008 (R2), apply at least the following patch levels of the DBSL library. Otherwise, serious problems occur in transports, upgrades and EHP installations.
    The minimum patch levels are:
    • Kernel Release 7.00 ------> 188
