SLD Maintenance: Will XI still work or does it need the SLD to run?

Hello,

we are planning to upgrade the Unix servers on which our central SLD is running. When the SLD is turned off, will XI stop working then or will it still send and receive messages without errors?

yes def you will encounter with an error if sld is putoff.

Can you also explain raughly, why XI needs the SLD to send and receive messages? One might think that XI could also live with it's cache for a while?

transport mechanism is enabled for XI objects across dev-qa-prod landscape thro SLD. And for this reason also there demands a need for sld

also all objects are related to a software component(you integrate software product,components) which is pulled from SLD .

SLD is the only single point of contact for all systems from XI. Unless no SLD how do we know what are the other systems available in my implementation scenarios.this is with respect to developer point of view...

If we dont know what systems are existing in my implementation scenario.how do i intergrate the systems.

SLD fetches all the data related to other systems and exposes it to developer. Moreover without SLD version management is not possible.

There may be other reasons for this as well.

But I can imagine this as a prominent cause as to ehy scenarios will fail..

All the information about your systems(Technical and Business Systems) involved in the landscape are maintained in SLD. During every run of a scenario, this information is required.

So if XI can not find this information, the scenario is bound to fail.
