A good start point is the APO on line help on help.sap.com; see the section 'Supply Chain Processes with APO', within which there is a section on VMI.

Fahrudeen,
VMI can mean
1. Your vendor manages your inventory or
2. You, as a vendor manage your customer's inventory
both have distinct scenarios. What are you interested in?

Fahrudeen,
This can be achieved by installing a component of SCM called Inventory Collaboration Hub (ICH).
This allows you to integrate your R/3 and APO systems using XI in between, and allows your vendors to log on to your system from ICH web. The vendor here gets a visibility of your requirement of the components he supplies to you and he can plan his shipments to your factory. This information is transferred to your R/3 system and you get a visibility of when and what is being sent to your factory.
Rgds,
Sarah.
