I was asked to research on the SAP XI. I have the documents but still confused how does it work. Our client is from the other country. We have a SAP netweaver installer. What are the things to prepare to set this up? What will be the setup if our client is from the other country? And SAP Xi resides in our server? Or should we suggest the client to install XI in their office?
Points for the helpful ideas.
Thanks!
Hey
if u want your client to talk to your XI server,he can instal PCK through which he can stay in contact with your XI server.

Hey
PCK is partner connectivity kit and is used by smaller companies to connect to your XI server.it has a lot of functiinalities same as XI,u can think of it as jst a smaller variant of XI.
can u explain ur requirement a bit more, you want to start learnig XI or you want to install XI?
thanx
ahmad

HI ahmad,
Actually both. We haven't identified the client's requirement yet. At least I want to have an overview about XI. Maybe next month they'll be here and discuss the plan. What are the info's I should ask from them? Do u think I can create sample scenarios here even i f we dont have much applications to intergrate.
Thanks guys!
Hey
yes if u have a running XI server at your end u can create sampe scenarios and demonstrate it to them.
you can have a simple scenario of File to File in which u can pick a simple flat file from one directory of your FTP server and post that File onto another directory.its the simplest scenario which u can do.
to install XI,you will need SAP XI admin guys
have a look at the followin blog to do the above said scenario

Hi Maui,
You can ask to your client like the following questions..
1) you an ask them about their Systems Landscape?
2) Are there any ERP System are available?
3) How many interfaces they are planning to implement?
4) Whare are the appliations they are planing to involve in part of Integration?
Hope you understand the above questions.
Please let me know if you have any queries.
Thanks and Regards,
Chandu.
Hi
Add to Chandu res....
apart from the basics try to ask some thing technically
Are they providing any XSD,WSDL, Naming conventions
Protocals related like http,ftp,smtp....
If file related then CSV,Fixed....like that delimeter specific
If R/3 present then ....it is Idoc,Rfc,BAPI,....any proxies and webservices for
direct communication ....etc
the following links are the best start up for any one

prasad
Hi
What ever i specified all are scenario's specific ....!!!
So you start with
1) What is the probelm ? this will give answer for why they are going for XI
2) Total number of systems? that is their SLD ?
3) Scenario's ? total ? what kind of ? these all will come here
4) Then based on the scenario you need to get the full information ....this is
place where you can ask all the questions what i specified in the previous
mail.....
It is worked for me....and hope the same thing with you

Hi Maui,
Along with the various replies that you have received for your query you can do the following things as well:
Start with XI Overview. Then read about SLD in detail. After knowing about SLD read about IR and ID. Once you done with it then go to RWB. These all are the major players in XI scenario.
After completing these topics you can do any scenario, which will give you the practical understanding that how it is working. Please focus on that why do you need XI, why SLD, IR and ID. Why any step is required?
Understanding these questions will make provide you better understanding about XI.
Below are few links that may be useful for you:

Hi again,
I don't know much about XML and iDoc. Would that be a problem? From XML format the messages will be received by XI and it will be converted to iDoc, right? Where should the SAP adapter located in our side or on client's?
