Hi
We are planning to migrate the SAP 4.0B system from old AS400 model 720 to new i5.
At the moment the 720 is in V4R4 and i5 will be V5R4.
I'm investigating the best method to perform this kind of migration.
Anyone has exprince performed this kind database copy, kindly share.
Thanks
Yuva
Hi Yuva,
I would suggest a homogeneious systemcopy with the "eazy technique" (more or less only a copy of the r3siddata) and then loading a new EXT kernel that needs to be patched first. As you are on V4R4, you are using the COM kernel, that is not certified for V5R4 ...
Should be pretty easy going ...
have fun,

Hello Yuva,
Volker has pointed out a feasible direction. It will be fun, and easy (for guy like Volker).
If you have custom programs for interface, etc...as I remember (sorry that was years ago), LIBRFC caused issue when we switched the kernel from COM to EXT, and some CL commands related to STM files get changed accross V5R1 upgrade (some interface programs were broken).
If you have the following code-page conversion and ECC upgrade in mind, consider hiring consultant to help out? It would save a lot of stress.
Best regards,
Victor
Hi Yuva - You should also be aware of the significant changes to OS/400 database optimizer between V5R1 and V5R3. There are a number of changes that could impact performance of programs. You either need to do a lot of research and testing or get help from a consultant who knows what to watch out for.
Good luck,
