RFC's

This is a similar question to my previouse question regarding IDOCs...

When Sending or receiving RFC's is there any config that needs to be done on the XI Abap stack or in the Sender or Receiver R/3 Systems?

For example with IDOC's SM59, WE20 etc have to be configured.... are there similar steps with RFC's

OK I understand what you are saying but the problem with many blogs is they give all of these config steps but dont say in which system these are to be configured...

Can someone please give me the steps required in

The sender R/3 system and XI Abap stack in the case of a sender RFC

The receiver R/3 system and XI Abap stack in the case of a receiver RFC

In which systems is what confuses me

do look into /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/03/29/configuring-the-sender-rfc-adapter--step-by-step

there when it is mentioned RFC destination, it refers to the settings in R3.

there are no settings in XI for RFCs except configuring the comm. channel.

Hi SAP XI,

The RFC adapter handles native RFC calls to and from the Integration Server. It runs as a registered JCo server program in the Adapter Engine so that the communication is always routed through the SAP gateway

Please see the below links.

Sender RFC, will require you to look into various factors like the Program ID. But the recv. RFC is a bit merciful

Do ref.

Sender RFC - /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/03/29/configuring-the-sender-rfc-adapter--step-by-step

trouble shooting rfc/soap -

/people/shabarish.vijayakumar/blog/2008/01/08/troubleshooting--rfc-and-soap-scenarios-updated-on-20042009 >>> will give you an idea abt the program id settings.

Hi,

The RFC Adapter runs as Service in the J2EE environment of the Adapter Engine .

Part of the PCK.

The RFC Adappter provides sRFC and tRFC.

RFC as Sender:Configuratoin takes place using an RFC Adapter communication channel(type sender) and transaction sm59(create RFC connection)

Ass systems that send an RFC via RFC adapter require and RFC connection to the respective RFC adapter(inbound).metadata is gathered int he samway.Register the program ID of the RFC adapter in SM59.The RFC destination must be of type(TCP/IP).

The program ID must be hte same as in the RFC adapter.

user need authority to read meta data.

RFC As Receiver:Communication takes place using an RFC adapter comunication channel.

Only SM59 in the sender R/3 System or the Receiver R3 System or on XI Abap Stack?

So do you need a communication channel on the sender side with Sender RFC's?
