sap r/3 4.6b is no longer supported .. so even with the 46d_ext kernel and oracle 10g there will be no soppurt by sap ;-(

Hi,

This is correct and incorrect at the same time.

4.6C has entered in "Customer Specific Maintenance".

This term means that SAP will provide support only for known errors.

It is a bit different to say that SAP will NOT provide support.

Of course, the support cannot be the same as "new/unknown" bugs will not be solved.

More information about "support" can be found on:

http://service.sap.com/maintenance

Very important to see also note 1009695

Regarding the orginal question, based on the note 156548,

Kernel 4.6D supports 8i and 9i ( both in Solaris 8 and 9 )

Kernel 4.6D supports 9i and 10g ( in Solaris 8, 9 and 10 )

Based on this, your steps seem to be correct. Pay attention on the point 2 as with the change of kernel you will have to change the oracle client as well.

On the Step 3 ( upgrading to Oracle 10g ) you do not change the oracle client, but you need to isntall the instantclient 10 aswell

Hi,

I want to clary something else that I forgot on my previous entry.

Oracle 10g has NOT been released for 4.6B ( or older releases )

You can use the combination 10g + 4.6B temporarily as a part of a SAP Upgrade to a Released Combination, but keep in mind that ( probably ) it will be some areas where you will get errors ( Probably areound DB02, ST05 and monitors ) where no patch is available.
