ITS Standalone or integated?

Former Member

Hello,

First of all , let me say that i am very much confused regarding the

ITS concepts of stand-alone and integrated. That is where this qn comes from.

We have a standalone ITS.But we are having ITS installed on WAS 6.4.

That means integrated, isnt int?

I know that we can make out by the url that it is standalone or integ.but

the browser refuses to work !!!

R/3 on the other hand runs on WAS 6.2.That is why we want to use ITS

here. So Is it possible to use the ITS on WAS6.4?

Hope someone can clear this up

Regards

Vineeth

Hi Vineeth

I'm not sure about what you mean with "then where does WAS 6.40 come into the picture"? Of course, if you don't have a WAS 6.40, you don't need to think about it...

It is not necessary that the ITS is installed in the same server as the WAS. In fact, it would be better if it could be located in another server, specially if we are talking about the productive system.

Hi,

I am now trying to connect to R/3 using my standalone ITS.

I made some changes in the global.srvc file as well as the services file in

system32/drivers. I have given my R/3 systemid in the global.srvc.

Yet i am getting a Connect Error -"ITS could not connect to WAS or R.3" .

Could any one help me out ?

I had added an entry for PRD in the services file .

Hi Vineeth,

usually I give the connection parameters in the URL - this is perfect for testing. Try:

http://<ITShost>:<ITSport>/scripts/wgate/webgui/?systemname=<SIY>&messageserver=<MSGServer>&logingroup=<GROUP>&client=<CLNT>&~language=<LANGUAGE>

This should work without entries in global.srvc or webgui.srvc

hope this helps

Hi Tobias,

I have done testing using the above url as well as from portal side

by means of an iview. But i am getting the same error that

<i> ITS cant connect to WAS or R/3</i>.

Also I have heard that we have to publish some services before launching this webGui.

I dont know anything regarding that.Is it actually reqd?

  • Also when ITS is installed do we specify the R/3 system it is used for?

  • Is it also possible to later configure the same ITS for a different R/3?

Pls bear with me ,I have not installed ITS myself, thatz why all these qns

Could you pls help me on this?

Hi Vineeth,

Yes you are required to publish the Webgui via SICF.

Here is a link:

Hi Vineeth,

publishing the services for the standalone ITS is not necessary, they are stored in the file system - this is a difference to the WebAS solution where the templates and service descriptions are stored in the data base.

When installing the ITS 6.20 (the standalone ITS) you are requested for configuring the R/3 system which the ITS should connect to. Here you can also configure how the connection will be established. These entries go to the default service named 'global.srvc'. So it is possible to change the configuration for using another R/3 system.

It is - of course - possible, to use the same ITS instance for running different services with different backends. The connection data can be passed via the URL - as shown in my previous posting or taken from the service description (webgui.srvc f.i.). You might copy webgui.srvc to hugo.srvc, and edit the connection data in hugo.srvc for connecting to a specific R/3 system.

But one limitation does exist: The connection codepage for a Unicode backend is always '4110' independent of the logon language, this contrasts to the connection codepage used for Non-Unicode systems. So it is a good idea to use different ITS instances for Unicode and Non-Unicode systems.

hope this helps

Tobias

Hi Vineeth

If you have a WAS 6.40, you have the option to use the integrated ITS 6.40 in this system, but, as it has been said before, you cannot use it to connect to any other system.

Anyway, you still have the option to use the "standalone" ITS 6.20 to connect to your system 6.40, as the ITS 6.20 is compatible with SAP systems based on SAP EAS 6.40 and lower. So you can still install the ITS 6.20 and connect to your WAS 6.40, without using the integrated one.

As of WAS 7.00 this option is not possible. The integrated ITS will be mandatory.

Thank you for ur response. But i am having a doubt once again.

This may be silly, so please bear with me.

What exactly is the use of both these WAS ie 6.2,6.4?

I have been told that R/3 runs on WAS 6.2 ,then where does WAS 6.4

come into the picture ? (because that is the one having ITS installed).

Also if I have to install a separate "stand-alone" ITS as you have said

for WAS 6.2 ,should it be on the same box that runs WAS 6.2 ?

Hi Vineeth,

Let me try and explain the difference.

WAS stands for Web Application Server, its the core part of SAP R/3 system, it was originally called as SAP BASIS layer, SAP has attempted to include communication to the integrate connectivity to the Web by providing functionalities that were not available earlier in 'basic' R/3 systems.

In WAS 6.20 , ITS was available as a seperate component consisting of two parts, the AGATE and WGATE.

The AGATE (Application server Gate) was involved in interfacing R/3 (ABAP) programs to the internet component (WGATE or Web Gate). These two components used to work in tandem and provide a unified interface called ITS.

In the next version of SAP, they came up with WAS 6.40,where the AGAT and WGATE were no more two different components, but as integrated ITS.

Sidhesh,

Thank you for your support. But what you have told me is already known.

But could you please answer my queries posted above?

That is what I am looking for .

Hi Vineeth,

Please have a look at the ITS standalone architecture link:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/0b/4b77e84aca11d3804e00c04f99fbf0/frameset.htm

You should be able to get answers to your questions.

Hi,

Integrated ITS can be used only on the server in whcih it is inbuilt...So internal ITS in R/3 WAS 6.4 can be used only on that server...not for your R/3 6.2 system...For R/3 6.2 you will have to use External/Standalone ITS.

BR,

Disha.

Pls reward points for useful answers.

Hi Disha,

So WAS 6.4 has only integrated ITS right? also I cant use that for

connecting to my R/3 which runs on WAS 6.2. The thing is I have been

told ITS is standalone. Then now i am told that its on WAS6.4.

So it is integrated after all, it seems.

Let me confirm on this and get back with some qns.Hope to hear from you

once again.
