Ora sudden shutdown

Former Member

Hi,

System: 2 Application, 1 DB server; Win2000, Ora9203, 47E.

At 18:00 our system shuts down unexpectedly and I can't find reason. (SAP was still running at the time)

Checked:-

- Ora Alert log (Show db running and db startup - no shutdown)

- Event log (Reports: Unexpected shutdown of incstance - no prior errors)

- Ora trace files (nothing)

- log files (ora, listener = nothing)

- system log (shows processes going in reconnect status)

I am at a loss as to what caused it and where else to look?

Please assist / advise

upgrade at least to the latest 9.2.0.7 or 9.2.0.8.

First of all thousands of errors have been fixed, second these two Oracle Versions are the only where you can install the so called CPU (critical patch units), which contain important security fixes.

-> any windows issues?

-> hand it over to sap support...this has happened on other win systems as well = is not new...but still no 100% proofed solution available...

Hi

Shutdown!!!! You Db or system .

Check for services to see oracle service on windows run services.msc from run.

If ur DB is down have a look on alert<SID>.log.

Try connecting by sqlplus and see open_mode.

Let me know if u need more help.

The system is back online and users are working. What we are trying to establish is what caused the db to shutdown.

When i found the system, the db was shutdown and the SAP MMC was green (SAP online).

Like i mentioned. The alert log shows entries up to 18h00; then nothing after that. Only again at 20h33 when i restarted the db.

The eventlog shows:-

1. The previous system shutdown at 18:00 was unexpected.

2. SAPPRD_00 and SAPOScol started successfully. It never shows any shutdown of these services.

3. vxboot. Failed to auto-import disk group SAP_INST. All volumes in the group are not available.

I also found a memory dump of 132MB on the server created at that time.
