NW04s SP9, in our /cluster/server0/log/archive directory, there are hundreds of hidden 'dot' files (e.g. .%2Flog%2Fservices%2Ftc.CBS.Service%2Fcbs.%25g.trc1168457753543.zip). These are being spawned about 5 per minute, and of course fill up the filesystem (/usr/sap/<SID>).
Could someone enlighten me to:
1.) what are they for?
2.) why are they hidden? (with a . preceeding their name)
3.) how to do a reorg? (aside from just running a UNIX cron job or something)
4.) how long to retain them and what use are they?
Sound like automatic archives of logs, see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/f6/7d814282cfc153e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
In that case:
1) archives of log files to save space
2) probably just coincidence or a strange bug. The name looks like an escaped relative path and it would not be hidden on Windows. Or the archive path is somehow repeated (see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/48/2edfd5bd3e0d4a81b90325fe195a70/frameset.htm )
3) Check the limits in the log configuration: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/83/345e42c4185542e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
I would expect that old archives get deleted automatically if that size is exceeded.
4) No idea. If you open such a zip file and look at the content what do you see?

Marc

I have seen the SAP doc:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/d0/7c5f408e631059e10000000a155106/content.htm
But that doesn't seem to help. Not only are some of the paths described in the help file there, but even after turning off all CBS logging, they still keep appearing at the rate of about 20 per minute (zip files).
