Full ABAP Edition-Trial: no installation of maxdb???

Former Member
0 Kudos

Hello to all,

I installed "Full ABAP Edition-Trial" some days ago and everything worked fine without any problems. Windows on partition H: and programs (like sap and sapdb) on partition L:.

Because of an other problem I had to reinstall Windows on H:. I deleted the subfolders L:\SAP and L:\sapdb. to get a clean world for sap.

I start the installation process and setup asks me the path to install sap. I enter "L:\SAP". In the next screen it asks me about the database master password. I enter my password. In the next screen the setup tolds me to install the components MaxDB to L:\sapdb and application server to L:\SAP\NSP. Total Size: 18823.1 MB needed (By the way: I have 40 GB free).

I press the install button and installation process runs without errors. Then (after 2 minutes!) I get the screen that tolds me "The InstallShield Wizard has successfully installed SAP Netweaver 2004s ABAP Trial Version.".

So I start the SAP Management Console and start the instance. The icons become green and I see for example that the processes msg_server.exe and dispwork.exe are running. Dispwork.exe stops after a few seconds.

Looking to the system log I see "Communications data: Service initialization failed" and some "SAP-Basis System: Initialization DB-Connect Failed, Return Code 008192" messages.

When I press the database icon in the the SAP Management Console, I get a screen "page could not be displayed".

So it seems like a database problem. I look to the windows explorer and there is only the SAP-folder (with 341 MB). THERE IS NO SAPDB-FOLDER!!!

I can't find an installation-log to see if there were problems (No log.txt at SAP\NSP).

I deinstalled everything with deinstaller, run some registry cleaner and also installed a clean windows at H:, but everytime the same. I find note 572836 (Deleting SAPDB Registry entries and services) but it doesn't help.

I know when I installed SAP the first time (where it worked fine), I had not to install the microsoft loopback adapter. So I tried the installation with and without the adapter. No success!!!

I get crazy about it... Perhaps there is something wrong about the preinstalling environment: I download the two files SAPNW2004sABAPTrail_part1.rar and SAPNW2004sABAPTrail_part2.rar to the folder L:\downloads. Then I unpack only the first one SAPNW2004sABAPTrail_part1.rar in the same folder. Then there is a new folder SAPNW2004sABAPTrail_part1. This one contains a folder SAPNW2004sABAPTrail. There are some folders and files. I change to the folder images. There I start the setup.exe (but before I installed the lookback adapter).

I'm a little bit irritated about the files SAPNW2004sABAPTrail_part1.rar and SAPNW2004sABAPTrail_part1.rar. The first one has a size of 1536000KB and the SAPNW2004sABAPTrail_part2.rar has a size of 1249739KB. Just for analyze I unpack the SAPNW2004sABAPTrail_part2.rar-file and see that it has exactly the same structure like SAPNW2004sABAPTrail_part1.rar!!! Also the size of the unpacked files are the same. Is this normal???

So, that's my problem: No database here. Anyone here who has an idea? Please help me. I really need ABAP here!!!

Kindly regards,

Andy

Hi all!!!

Now it work!!! I really don't know why. I recovered windows xp again, installed the Microsoft loopback adapter, used some regcleaners, installed jdk and edited the hosts-file (3 lines: 10.10.0.10 myhostname, 192.168.0.2 myhostname, 127.0.0.1 localhost (with CR in the line)). Also I installed the database manager and SQL Studio as you mentioned (but I was not able to add or create an instance). Then I installed the Full ABAP Edition-Trial again. AND NOW IT WORKS!!!

I already have done these steps before, so I don't know which step was the sticking point...

Thanks to all for your help,

Andy

Hi Markus,

so I installed the database manager and SQL Studio as you mentioned.

When I start the database manager I see the screen database instances. There I press "Add..." (not create). Then there is the pop-up Add database instance. When I don't change the defaults (Database Server: <Local> and port: <default>) and press Add I get an error popup with the message "-4 database instance not found". In the server list in the upper left window I can see the server <Local>.

Very strange...

If you still have ideas, let me know!!!

Grettings,

Andy

Hi Andy

.I have few questions:

1.You installed maxDB database?Which version?

Version should be 7.6 as ur installing NW04s

2.Check whether maxDB is running or not?

Go to services and look for Xserver service.See it is started or not.If no then start it.

Do the above step and continue the installation. If you still face any prob let me know.

Hello Rajat,

thanks for your reply. In the setup-process the routine tells me the two components, which <u><b>will be</b></u> installed: First MaxDB to L:\sapdb and second the application server to L:\SAP\NSP (see page 15 of the installation guide). So I think the database should also be installed when I start this setup-routine. But after the (?successfully?) installation of this setup, there is no database. Also no folder L:\sapdb as I mentioned above.

Kindly regards,

Andy

hello andy! hi all!

i had nearly the same problem - but i had an sapdb folder ...

i tried to install the 'NW 2004s ABAP Trial Version' from the book 'ABAP Objects ABAP-Programmierung mit SAP NetWeaver'. i'm using WinXP SP2 on a VMware image. the windows installation is a german (austria) default installation - the firewall is disabled.

the installer will finish successfully, but i can't access the database from the SAP Management Console. (Console Root.SAP Systems.NSP.vm_winxp.Logon: Server Name=localhost; Database Name=NSP; User Name=control; Password=myPwdFrmTheSetup --> the error 'Invalid Session ID!' will be shown. if i use a wrong parameter like Password=unknown, i see the message '-24950 ERR_USRFAIL: User authorization failed')

at the last point in the d:\DOC\html\index.html on the cd (Getting started), i got the information 'The SAP System ID (SSID) is NSP with System Nr 00.' and i had to install the SAP GUI and create a new entry in SAP Logon for the system NSP with System Number 00 on localhost - i also failed a this point ...

in the Management Console i can see in the Process List, the the Process 'msg_server.EXE' is running, but the 'disp+work.EXE' is only running short time and then it will stop.

in the syslog i can see, many error messages, beginning like this:

Message ID: S10 - Communications data: Service initialization failed

Message ID: BY2 - Database: Database error -10709 at CON

Message ID: R19 - SAP-Basis System: Initialization DB-Connect Failed, Return Code 000256

a.s.o.

i installed the maxdbtools from the cd (DBM76.exe and SQLSTD76.exe).

- with the 'Database Manager' i can add the database (Database Instance.Add... --> Add --> [i used the default values] NSP / 7.6.00.32 / C:\sapdb\NSP\db --> OK) and also connect to there (User Name: control / Password: myPwdFrmTheSetup). after that i saw some system informations about the NSP database.

- with the 'SQL Studio' i cant connect to the database (Server: localhost / Database: NSP / User: CONTROL / Password: myPwdFrmTheSetup). the popup-message: 'ODBC-Error: [SAP AG][SQLOD32 DLL][MaxDB] Invalid authorization specification;-4008 POS(1) Unknown user name/password combination; return-code: SQL_ERROR (-4008)' will be shown.

this where my first steps with sap and i dont know with steps i should do next and i'm a littel bit confused with my experience today ...

pls can some one help!?

Hi Andy

That means database is not installed and thats what the error says.Once maxdb is installed you can see a service created called Xserver.

Now the work around can be install the maxdb seperately and then start your installation again.Keep in mind that for NW04S you need maxdb 7.6 and for NW04 you need maxdb 7.5.

Is this the reason for disp+work not to start up.

Because I have a prob were disp+work does not start up after minisap says: Installation succesfull. And it seems that all the services are started
