Customer Data vs. Application Data

Can anyone explain the different between customer data and application data? I saw this option in client copy. Thank you.

Can you specify this a bit more?

From an MDM perspective, customer data denotes the master data object "customer", which can be applied in a concrete application system and so brought into a concrete business context where it is used (referenced) for certain business operations in conjunction with transactional data.

So there is a general difference between master data and transactional data.
