iSeries - inplace unicode conversion for system ECC 6.0 (WAS 7.00).

Hi all,

we are converting our test system ECC 6.0 from ASCII to UNICODE but with serious problems.

Our server : i5 550 V5R4 last cumulative and PTF for SAP November edition on board.

Tools in use : CD installation master NW2004S patched with control.xml attached to OSS note 800791 last edition.

SAPINST menu options path : NW2004S SR1 > Additional software Life-Cycle Tasks > System copy > IBM DB2 for ISeries > Source system > Central system > Based on AS ABAP > Database instance export.

Problem : SAPINST stops with error during export DB ("run R3SZCHK ......... " appear at status row of sapinst window.

No R3szchk*.log logs available and others support logs.

At OS/400 level we have a JOBLOG with errors about PASE calling to executable disp+work and dw_gui.o. This objects are un the executable directory.

Have you any experience of this error ?

am I using the right CD or I must use the CD 51030989 (that is for WAS 6.40).

Thank's

Fabio

Hi Fabio,

yes, you are using the correct CD and typically only need this one patch !

I'm surprised, the r3szchk is called there ... but obviously this is the case ...

What ASCII & Unicode Kernels are you using ? Are they useful patched ? especially in the r3load, r3dlctl & r3szchk area ?

I could provide you CD download images for patched ones ...

Hi Volker,

for our source system (to convert to unicode), we have a kernel type 7.00 ASCII (NOT unicode !!!) patch 85 with the last release of R3SZCHK, R3LDCTL , R3LOAD patches.

The server is a i5 model 550 with V5R4 and PTF CUM C06192540.

In this moment OSS tell me that " for the "In-Place Procedure for Systems on iSeries" document you should use the CPC conversion CD51020297".

I try with this tool and I'll inform you ..................

Kind Regards

Hi Fabio,

do NOT use that CD !!!!

That is the CPC CD for 4.6x Systems to convert from EBCDIC to ASCII!!! It will do everything, but NOT solve any of your problems ...

Hi Volker,

you are right.

The answer from OSS refer to a wrong CD number !!!!!!!!

It's a strange error ...............

Of course I'll try to use the right CD number : 51030989.

Thanks for your advise & help.

Hello Fabio,

the information from Volker is correct. CD 51030989 is the right one for ASCII-Unicode-CPC. Can you please tell me the OSS ticket number that I can ask what went wrong in the support area? Please keep in mind that a special fix for the SAPinst procedure (exchange of file control.xml) is required if you use that CD with a 7.00 system (as mentioned at the end of note 800791).
