Hello Friends,
I need some guidance in setting up our lab.
We are getting SAP ECC 6.0 as well as 5.0 on INTEL/NT/Oracle platform.
(will activate IS-U and IS-Oil in two instances on ECC 6
will install IS-U best practices on ECC 5 )
Questions:
1. Can I go for 64 bit OS ?
2. Will Oracle 9i work as well as 10g ?
3. Will it work on any RISC based processor ? (The H/W platform options on SAP Software Catalog does not include RISC, but only INTEL)
4. Will it work on Win2003 as well ? (The OS options on SAP Software Catalog does not include Win 2003, but only NT)
Or is it that Windows OS is not available on RISC processors ?
Many thanks
Kaushik Banerjee
Hi Kaushik,
From the performanance perspective using 64Bit system is advisable
Using Oracle 10G is recommended for 64Bit server.
You can use Win2003 with Oracle 10G

Thanks a lot, Sachin.
That perfectly answers my query.
But there is one more factor that came up.
I later found out that SAP ECC has all the releases - 32 bit as well as 64 bit, Unicode as well as non-Unicode.
While ordering on SAP Shop in Service Marketplace as a Partner (we already have some installation elsewhere and we are going for a new one), I did not find any such specification.
Can you please advise how to make sure that I am ordering the 64 bit ?
It will be of great help.
Best Regards
Kaushik

Hello Kaushik,
to be very exact just check the download infomation for My SAP ERP
Download Information
SAP ERP 2005 is based on SAP Netweaver 2004s. In order to have a complete set of media for SAP ERP 2005 you need the ERP-specific as well as the Netweaver media. Please note that the ERP-specific media is platform independent, whereas the Netweaver media is partly platform dependent.
You can access the ERP-specific media by clicking on the entry "Installation and Upgrade", while you have to click on the entry "Netweaver 2004s" in order to access the Netweaver media.
Best Regards,
Sachin.
