Porting of SAP Data from one OS to another OS

Dear All,

Currently we are running SAP ECC 5.0 with backend ORACLE 9 Database in AIX system.The current backup procedure is using Brtools offline data base backup.

For DR purpose, we are looking for HP-UX/Sun Solaris System.

We have following queries

Can we use the method archive shipping and apply the same?

Can we restore the backup data of AIX to HP-UX/Sun Solaris.

Kindly clarify our query.

Hello,

You cannot restore a DB from AIX into HPUX/Solaris

Same regarding the shipping and applying of redo log files.

For DR you must use the same backend.

this job is called heterogenious system copy.

Hello Peter,

As Far as I know

- An heterogeneous system copy is not a "valid" DR ( Disaster Recovery ) option

- After an Heterogeneous system copy you cannot apply the redo logs from the original DB as you have a different DB incarnation ( also, the OS is different )
