Client Copy Issues

Hi All,

Last week we copied the production client say 400 to a new client say 550 in the production server. The client copy went through without any hiccups.

But next day on request by our SD consultant we transported a request to ONLY client 550. The SD consultant has released the request from clinet 200 in the development server. The purpose of the request was to create a new access sequence table which is a cross-client object.

But after transporting the request we found that the settings affected the configuration of client 400 and we had to cancel the changes by opeing the client 550.

What could have gone wrong?

Even though it is a cross-client object why the required changes failed and disturbed the existing configuration? As per the transport log, the request was transported successfully.

Is it advicable to create a client in production server which will be used ONLY for TESTING some busness process?

I request the members to give me the DO's and DONT's and other precautions to be taken before a client copy process is undertaken.

Thanks n Regards

Shiva

Hi,

As you mentioned the object you transfered cross client object, it will effect the all the clients in the system.

hence SAP recomends not to create any additional client in production server

for more information about cross client customising follow this link

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005vp/helpdata/en/83/08443c4a089537e10000000a114084/frameset.htm

if you want to test a object try to do DB copy to QAS system and simulate in that system

Hi,

Usually you should have development client in the Development Server,

Test clients in the QA server and just one production client in the Production server (at least that you work with multiple clients to separate companies or so).

Theory says you should transport a request to QA (to a client that is a copy of Production client) so the consultants can test the process there. Then they request to make the transport to PRD.

As Samrat says, if you have more than one client and the order contains changes to cross-client objects you are going to afect all of them. I suggest you re organize your clients and talk to the consultants or users about the new schema.

Good luck.
