Mobile Web Dynpro & Nokia S60 OSS Browser Support

Former Member

Hi,

I'd like to know if Mobile Web Dynpro supports Nokia S60 OSS browser (http://opensource.nokia.com/projects/S60browser/). I'm aware that there are specific Nokia models that Mobile Web Dynpro currently supports, but since Mobile Web Dynpro is basically just a web application technology I'm hoping that mobile web browsers like Nokia's OSS browser should be supported.

I have tried using Blackberry and Pocket PC simulators for accessing Mobile Web Dynpro applications and it worked well, however, there are users who prefer using Nokia S60 models which are more affordable and less expensive than Blackberry and Pocket PCs. It would be great if we can use the OSS Browser for accessing Mobile Web Dynpro applications.

Best regards,

Jojo

Hi Jojo,

Though Nokia S60 provide Browser features, Webdynpro is not supported on that. It is Nokia S80 which is optimizsed for enterprise applications.

The enterprise users of SAP's applications can now create enterprise applications with extended mobility for the Series 80 Platform.

Dear Divya,

Thanks for replying to my post! Yes I'm already aware that Nokia S80 is the only model series currently supported by Mobile Web Dynpro based from the official documentation provided at SDN. In my opinion this limitation will be a disadvantage for the adoption of Web Dynpro for companies using cheap but handy/powerful Nokia models like the S60 which provides the OSS Browser (and optionally can use also Opera Mini Browser). Hence, I'm really keen on Web Dynpro providing support for modern mobile browsers like the OSS and Opera Mini. Perhaps a JSF implementation on NetWeaver that can support XHTML-MP rendering would be a powerful feature also along with Web Dynpro.

Best regards,

Jojo
