I have basic knowledge in PHP, able to create simple applications using MVC architecture and now working on SAP ABAP. where and how do my knowledge in php fits in SAP development

It would fit only when it comes to SAP-PHP integrations....At this time <b>SAP</b> doesn't support <b>PHP</b> as it do with <b>Java</b>.....So the only thing we can do, it use the <b>SAPRFC</b> connector -:)

You can use PHP to connect to an ABAP backend using RFC or Web Services. Puting this into your PHP MVC you can extract data from your backend system for your model component.

There are a number of blogs in the thread "Weblogs related to PHP and SAP " that will help you get started.
