Date field conversion in Import Manager

Hi,

I am getting the source Date field as 'Text' type and want to convert it to Date type.

Is it possible in import Manager?

What are the best way to manage the issue.

Hi Reo,

The data types of source data values are automatically

converted within the Source Values grid based on the data type of the

destination field to which the source field is mapped, even when stored

in the source data as text values.

Original source values appear with their original data type in the Value

column, and the converted values appear in the Converted Value

column with the data type of the mapped destination field and the

proper grid cell type for editing (e.g. text, numeric, measurement,

currency, date, time, Boolean).<i> If necessary, individual values can then

be manually edited to override errors or omissions in the source data.</i>

Hi,

Initially you have to map the two fields at source and destination side,then you will have to manually do the value mapping for destination field .

Hi reo,

I think u have not manually converted the date values before importing. You need to convert the text field into destination literal date in the bottom pane after mapping it and before importing.

Hi Reo,

You define to destination field as Date Type then you can map the field

Source (type:text) to destination (type:date).

In the import manager you determine your date import formate in the import Configuration window e.g YYYMMDD or DDMMYYYY etc

You can then convert to text by right clicking on the source field and converting to Original Value

Hi Con,

Can you please elaborate bit more .

My destination field is already defined as Date but when I am trying to map the text date field(source) to destination Date type field , the "map" function is NOT getting enabled.

I think I missed to give these details in my last mail.

I am sure you can give some detail insight to it.

Configuration Options affect the behavior of MDM Import Manager.

You can use Options command in the main menu to open the Configuration Options.

You will see a category called Dates.

This option allows you to specify the format of the incoming date values.

Choose the Date format of the incoming dates

It can be one of the following

YYYYMMDD

MM/DD/YYYY

DD.MM.YYYY

After setting this option, try mapping the source and destination fields.
