Are CCM and MDM separate modules?

Former Member

We are currently running SRM 5.0. We are currently running requisite but seeing as though this support ends we are considering implementing either CCM 2.0 or MDM. We are hoping these tools will help us implement a cross-catalog search.

Are these separate modules? Or are they part of SRM 5.0?

Any recommendation of one over the other? Interested in Pros/Cons of each.

Thank you in advance.

Rebecca

Thank you all for your responses.

From the feedback it sounds like MDM may be the way to go.

As far as licensing goes for MDM the SAP documentation says that is required for "Any SAP NetWeaver MDM-based scenario beyond procurement catalog management". So if we only need the catalog portion to support cross-catalog search does that mean we don't need addition licenses?

We are currently running a Netweaver component but I am not sure if that is different than SAP NetWeaver MDM.

Thank you for all of you assistance. You guys rock!

Thanks for the points, RD. You rock.

Well, I would think that for cross-catalog search that it would be part of the non-additional licensing portion. If you look at the SAP documentation where it describes the system landscape the search capabilities is baked into one of the four technical blocks. However, licensing is one of those things that you just don't want to be surprised on and falls into that world of SAP Sales, so to make absolute sure, I would contact SAP directly to make sure or find out who is the responsible SAP CEM (Customer Engagement Manager) to get you that information to you.

Hi Rebeca,

Yes, they are separated...

The CCM is focused for SRM to manage the master data. It has authoring and search engines but doesn't have replication for single functionalities, is not a repository for some or all mySAP business suite solutions like ECC or CRM.

CCM supports XML and CVS file loading, product master and contracts loading. Works trough XI.

MDM is a cross system master data manager, it works with all mySAP business suite components and also legacy systems, it has:

Content publisher, API's for multiplataform integration, scalability, master data harmonization, cleansing and distribution... MDM can be used to manage any master data catalog. It uses IDoc standard models for supplier, customer, material and employee catalogs.

So, according your client requirements you can choose for a CCM SRM standalone environment, or MDM for a multiplataform or SAP solutions environment... It depends also in the project scope, future plans, etc...

I hope this helps you to have an idea about CCM and MDM, if you need more references tell us...

Regards,

Gerardo.

Yes, true, but one thing to keep in mind is which one will be supported long term. It is somewhat in the air in terms of SRM-MDM Catalog, but rest assure that CCM 3.0 is probably not going to happen. With SRM-MDM Catalog, the grave has basically been dug for CCM, it just needs to lay in it now after it's support term is up. So one of the considerations to factor into considering CCM vs. SRM-MDM Catalog is on-going support. To implement CCM knowning there is SRM-MDM Catalog as the latest internal catalog solution is something to consider and not to take lightly...SAP has a 5-1 support schedule for it's products (meaning 5 years + 1 year customer extension). SRM-MDM Catalog is a sub of MDM, which I believe is currently is SAP NetWeaver MDM 5.5 Support Package 04.

Thanks,

Hi,

As far as i know, there will not have any CCM 3.0.

SRM-MDM is definitely the new SAP catalog tool...

Kind regards,

Yann

Are these separate modules?

They are separate solutions. Initially, CCM 1.0 and CCM 2.0 was to replace Requisite for internal Catalog functionality. However, SRM-MDM Catalog is the next generation of internal cataloging that has more advanced functionality including approvals (with a cost of course in licensing).

Or are they part of SRM 5.0?

SRM Support both CCM and SRM-MDM Catalog

Any recommendation of one over the other? Interested in Pros/Cons of each.

CCM has some performance issues, especially version 1.0. Hard to say because CCM did not last long (version 1.0 nd version 2.0) before SAP newer approach is SRM-MDM Catalog. One of those risks factors. Would probably go with SRM-MDM Catalog...MDM has been out there for a period, but SRM-MDM Catalog is new...just coming off of or soon to be coming off of restricted shipment.

Correction below:

Or are they part of SRM 5.0?

SRM 5.0 support both CCM and SRM-MDM Catalog
