Hi,
As moorthy already said pattersns are like templates that can solve many of the real time scenarios either as given or with some customization.
In BPM there are different patterns and each one having some sub patterns within them with slight variations.
Some Patterns are,
1. Multicast Pattern.
2. Serialization Pattern.
3. Sync/Async Bridge Pattern.
4. Collect/Bundle Pattern.
You can go thro this help link for more examples in Patterns,

Hi,
Pattern is a Template or form or model, which can be used to make/generate new things . Ie you can derive the specific requirement based on these Patterns..
It can be customized for your requirement.
IN XI, we can make use of bpmPatterns for the developing most of the different ccBPm concepts. Also , you can develop mapping patterns based on the realtime applications.
2 cents.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Moorthy
