Hi
Have seen a few forums about similar error but they all seem to be about installations on Windows platforms and installing a loopback adapter..??
Installing an IDES system on AIX5 and getting the following error message from the GUI on my PC (just running ./sapinst):
This computer's host name is 'abcdefg-3.abc.def.gh' but a reverse lookup returned 'abcdefg-3.abc.def.gh'. This will lead to problems later on when starting the Web Application Server. You can correct this problem by inserting a line: 'xx.xx.x.xxx abcdefg-3.abc.def.gh' into the host file '/etc/hosts'. Do this now so that you can continue the installation.
? What's the difference between 'abcdefg-3.abc.def.gh' and 'abcdefg-3.abc.def.gh' ?? Also, I already have the line
'xx.xx.x.xxx abcdefg-3.abc.def.gh' in the host file...?
Is this because the hostname is longer than 13 characters (as per SAP note 611361?) - is the .abc.def.gh part (domain) included in this count?
Many thanks
Ross
Fixed it - when I typed 'hostname' it was showing the FQDN which was too long.
Simply set the hostname without the domain name, i.e. the command:
hostname abcdefg-3
- and it's fixed.
Cheers anyway
