Can the value Test Environment Memory settings be changed ?

Hi,

Through this forum SAP note 808607 - iSeries: Memory management as of kernel 6.40 was brought to my attention.

This note deals with the recommended value for rdisp/PG_SHM and rdisp/PG_MAXFS in test and developement systems. This value is 8192.

As our TST environment is based on a copy of the PRD environment this value is now 32768, when I try to change the value the GUI interface is warning me that I am changing a value to a not recommended value.

Please advice what to do.

Regards, Rudi van Helvoirt

Hello Rudi,

The value of 32768 is our recommended value for PG_SHM in a productive environment; it should never be lower there. Therefore RZ10 spells out the warning you reported here. But ist TST and QAS environments you can set this value as low as 8192, ignoring the warning in RZ10. Since transaction RZ10 is not sensitive for running under PRD or TST conditions, its messages are designed for use in PRD systems.

Hello Bernhard,

Thanks for the answer. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

But as one question sometimes leads to another: Does changing these values influence the time a client copy will take from PRD to TST ?

Hello Rudi,

The answer is NO. A client copy does not use this type of shared memory.
