As the name says - it is an Advanced Planning Solution which allows Optimization. Primarily an application for planning and optimising across your supply chain not just at one plant. Good example would be to plan and optimize your replenishment plan having a supply chain with multiple Distribution Centers, Manufacturing Plants etc.
