No packaging material type therefore not a pack. mat.

Hello all

Here's how the issue gets started.

created a S.O->then carried out a VL01N> so far so good,

on the delivery screen, I want to pack the goods, so did a 'shift +F6'--->

next screen, most important field is "Packaging materials", so I fill up # 71.

Now 71 is a material with 'Item cat grp = VERP'.

I get the error message :- "71 does not have packaging material type and is therefore not a pack. mat."

so I carried out the following, to get out of this situation:-

SPRO

1)define packaging material types for example 0001-pallets

2)define material group for packaging[e.g. C = carton ]

3)defined the combination in 'define allowed packaging materials' [ so 'C' + 0001]

4) In material master assigned the material group pack.material in Basic data1 to 'C'

came back to fill the field "Packaging materials" [ from above]...no Joy

"71 does not have packaging material type and is therefore not a pack. mat."

what am I missing here or doing completely different ?

Hi friend,

U need to create the Material with material type VERP in MM01 and assign the item cat group VERP in sales view of the material . Use this material as packing material in delivery.

I already did mention in my 1st mail that [" 71 is a material with 'Item cat grp = VERP' ]

so what you mention is already taken care off.The material's there in material master with the required Item cat grp mentioned.

So I am still back on square one here.

Check "Material Type" of 71. It is perhaps not VERP. If it is not VERP then change it to VERP using transaction MMAM.

If there is lot of transactions involving the said material, Then it is better to create a new one, rather then changing "material type".

Item category group is different from Material type . when material type is selected in the initial screen of MM01 . confirm what is the material type of the material .

I carried out MMAM on Mat. 71 (originally 'trading goods'). I put "Material Type" = packaging, F8---->

The material type cannot be changed.

The reasons for this are:

Valuated stock exists (see valuation areas below).

However, account determination for the two material types differs.

(different account category reference or no valuation data defined)

ii)I created a new Material , this time "Material Type" = 'packaging', right from the 1st MM01 screen. saved. checked it's status in MMAM, it is ' packaging'. Yet when I propose this material in the sales document or delivery document, I get the same old message "81 does not have packaging material type and is therefore not a pack. mat."

• 81 is new Mat.

**all these materials used are of Item cat grp = VERP [ Sales Org. 2 Tab]

so even if "Material Type" = 'packaging' & VERP , it is not getting proposed for packing.

anyone any ideas ?
