Hi,
My personal favourite for ABAP -- ABAP in 21 days. The e-book is available right here..

I always learn things like this better from a book, and the book I used to get my feet wet with ABAP is this one:
http://www.amazon.com/ABAP-Objects-Introduction-Programming-Applications/dp/0201750805
I would recommend it, I'm sure the other forum members can provide you with some great online references.
Hi,
ABAP, and especially, core Java, is a good add-on with XI. ABAP, though not a must, does help :). All the best!

Hi,
It depends on the requirement of the project you will be assigned to. In some projects the clients say i need a person with a mix of ABAP and XI, or sometimes they have separate persons working on ABAP and XI.
ABAP Programming skill you only need when you use ABAP Proxys or ABAP Mappings, and need to be good hands on experience on ALE,IDOCs, RFC,BAPI's
Thou it is good to have a knowledge of ABAP, i do not think you need to have expert level knowledge. But, if you have expert level knowledge in both XI and ABAP, then you will be hot property in the market
Thanks,
Aravind

It is not relevant!
You do not need to have any ABAP knowledge.
But if you want to establish your own interfaces (ABAP-Proxy or RFC) it is necessary.
