Hi Gurus,

I am working on AIX 5.3 / Oracle 9.2.4 & facing below mentioned problem when I am trying to start the database. Copied the sqlplus in /home/devadm directory & change the rights also but still same problem. Please advise how to overcome this problem & also let me know how to upgrade KERNEL. Grateful if any body could send me the link to the documentation of KERNEL upgrade.

Hi,

Perhaps you should have opened a new thread instead of using one that is SOLVED.

Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure you do not have installed the oracle client:

Hi,

Still I am not able to connect to the server through Sapgui 640. Following error is appearing on the screen:-

Dear Sanjay,

As Vinod said rightly yr db is up and running.

Pl try to login in the r/3 server itself and see if you can login via the saplogon. If u r able to logon to sap from there then it seems some of your network settings prevents u to login from the specific client. Pl do a ping check from the client machine to check if the route to the server is ok or nor. command is ping 10.0.1.202 -t. If it cant ping there is some bottleneck in the network settings mostprobably in firewall setting. If it is able to ping then check the saplogon entries.Pl checkfor an entry sapdp00 3200/tcp in file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\services.

Pl let me know.Pl dont forget to award a point yaar.

Hi,

I have already checked the details provided by you before posting this message to the forum . In my opinion this is nothing but the authorisation problem. I have checked the sqlplus files & they are available in following directories:-

oracle/DEV/920_64/inventory/filemap/sqlplus oradev/dba

oracle/DEV/920_64/inventory/filemap/oem_webstage/oracle/sysman/help/master/vtc oradev/dba

oracle/DEV/920_64/bin devadm/sapsys

oracle/DEV/920_64/sqlplus devadm/sapsys

oracle/DEV/920_64/oem_webstage/oracle/sysman/help/master/vtc oradev/dba

I used to start the database through devadm. Please look into it.

^^ i thought you have a connection problem between your pc and your sap server?? any database tools like sqlplus are totally irrelevant in this case...the sapgui tries to connect to the appropriate sap application server (which on the other hand must have a working connection to he database server), so what you need is a valid connection! check your pc's tcp/ip settings (subnet & gateway as well!), try to ping your sap server, if really nothing works actvate the trace function in your saplogon utility (options -> activate trace level) and post the results here...

<b>-> is your sap system started???</b> after you started the database you have to start the sap application server as well...login as <sid>adm and type <i>startsap R3</i>

aahhh...

<b>still sqlplus is not found???</b> it should reside under /oracle/<SID>/920_64/bin (if you're running Oracle 9i on 64 bit)

<u>workaround:</u>

the database is running, so you don't have to start it anymore! just type "startsap <b>R3</b>" and report the results! <b>(ONLY START R3!!!)</b>

Sanjay,

ORA-12705 "invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified"

usually means, we cannot interpret the NLS information our Client (eg: SQL*Plus) is receiving. This is mostly a configuration issue either in your environment or

the NLS information we receive from the Server (eg: because of version missmatches between client and server).

The variable NLS_LANG needs to be in Uppercase on Unix Systems.

On Unix: depending on the shell, you have to export the environment variable to make it visible to the subprocesses

If you do not have the right permissions set on the NLS data files ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data on Unix you will receive an ORA-12705.

So this error involves many things So I recmd you to have close look on all perms Env variables and correct Oracle Home and locate in listenr and check for tnsping.

U need to have close look to identify problem.
