Extremely slow installation of SAP on Windows/MaxDB

Hi,

We installed SAP ECC5.0 with;

Windows (Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 32bit)

MaxDb (7.6 Build 18)

on our server with the following specs

x3650-SAP Production Server

1 x3650, Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5110 1.60 GHz/ 1066MHz, 2x2MB L2,

2x512MB Chipkill, O/Bay 2.5in HS SAS, SR-8k-I, CD-RW/DVD, 835W p/s

1 Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor 5110 1.60 GHz/ 1066MHz, FSB 2x2MB L2

1 1GB (2x512MB) PC-2-5300 667 MHz ECC Chipkill DDR2 FBDIMM

1 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-5300 667 MHz ECC Chipkill DDR2 FBDIMM

3 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-5300 667 MHz ECC Chipkill DDR2 FBDIMM

2 73GB 2.5" 10K RPM SAS Hot-swap HDD

1 ServeRAID-8k SAS Controller

2 DS4000 1-pt PCI-X 4 Gbps HBA

1 PCI Riser Card PCI-X Option

1 835 Watt Hot-Swap Power Supply Option (Non-US)

1 3 Y P, L, O/S 24x7

We were unable to create more than one parallel process (it hangs whenever we try creating more), so it took us more than 16 hours to complete the installation.

Moreover, the application of Support Packages was also very slow.

Been searching for notes for possible causes but so far has not gotten anything.

Was just wondering, does having a 32bit version of OS on a 64bit machine has any impact whatsoever on the performance?

Regards.

Tess

Hi

To isolate the problem you should perform the following

Check the performance of the system in general .

Check the network performance

(Especially if you have your installation media , export- and kernel CD's on remote servers ).

Take a look at task-manager , if you see an process consuming all CPU during installation

best regards
