Former Member

Hello all,

How r u ?

After gathering pretty good information we have planned for this. We wanted to check this once again.

We have the following and wish to test the functionality.

<b>1. SAP WAS 6.40 SP 15</b> - any patches to be downloaded ?

<b>2. SAP MI - Server</b> : SAP Xi 3.0, SP-15 - Is it possible to Configure with this Version?

<b>3. SAP MI - Client</b> : PDA Win CE 2003

<b>4. MDK Plug-In, available in NetWeaver Developer Studio</b> - any

configurations should be done here ?

<b>5. Java virtual machine</b> - What is the supported Version ?

<b>6. MS SQL Server 2000</b> - Is this supported ?

<b>7. SAP R/3</b> - This will be linked with Mobile Web Dynpro & BAPIs/RFCs

We are about to take a seperate system for installing all the above with SAP NetWeaver 2004, SP15.

Could u suggest us the following are enough and let us know if anything more is needed ?

Best Regards....

Hi Maran,

File I/O is also used as client side DB.(Mostly used for Generic sync applications).

But generally IBM DB2e is used extensively as it is highly encrypted(Mostly used in Generic sync applications).

If you want to use PDA Win CE 2005:

The Creme that is needed with MI when on Windows Mobile 2005 is Creme 3.27A.(Working offline) This is available on the NSIcom site.

You can also refer a note - 968148.

Cheers,

Karthick

Hello again

Still we are not very clear about the SetUp.

Xi is a Component, does this require a seperate Server ?

If Yes,

could u explain where we have to configure for MI in the Xi Server ?

Also, we are now in the initial development (simple application testing). For this we would like to install or Configure all the required WAS, Xi, R/3, etc. in a single machine. Is this possible ?

If Yes, How the system landscape will be ?

Does the MI Server & Client Installation DVDs comes with the NetWeaver Installation DVDs ? or we have to purchase seperately ?

Briefly we are trying to install WAS, Xi, R/3, etc... in one system. How could we proceed further ?

Best Regards....

Hi Maran,

<<

For XI and MI, we need a Dual Stack WAS(J2EE + ABAP Stack).

After installing the Dual Stack WAS, you can decide, whether use that server as

an XI server or MI server.

To set up XI, you have to deploy the corresponding XI component and have to do

the post installation set up.

I have already mentioned that, u need Dual Stack WAS server to set up XI and MI.

If you want to set up the XI server on this server, u have to install the XI component and use this as XI server. On this same server, you can set up the MI server also.

The configuration steps for MI is clearly mentioned in the installation guide itself.

You have to configure the MI on this XI server itself. You can configure.

I have mentioned , this is a dual stack server. So u can use the ABAP stack of the same server as R/3 server itself.

So , if it is for testing(R&D) purpose , you can configure the three systems on the same server.

Just refer these sections in the installation guide itself

The main steps u need to configure the MI are,

1) Creating a User Group for Synchronization(mandatory)

2)Role Editing for Mobile Applications(mandatory)

3)Creating Single Roles(most probably u have to create a new role for MI)

4)Creating Service Users(mandatory)

5)Creating Property Files(mandatory)

6)Uploading Framework Files

This procedure allows you to make the required connection data for the server available to the MI Sync servlet.

With this step, u are connecting the two stacks of the MI server. This is mandatory

5.1)Creating Property Files

The remaining sections , anyway u will have to configure for setting up the quality and production systems..

The above mentioned steps are mandatory to set up the basic configuration of MI.

Let us know, still have problems nd doubts..

Hi Maran,

Inorder to configure the MI server, you have to install the Dual Stack(J2EE + ABAP) stack server. In your case, you have already installed the Server for XI.

Here you only have to configure the server to do the MI development.

Everything you need to configure the MI server is documented well in the Installation Guide. This you can download from Service market place itself.

1)http://service.sap.com/instguides

Go to - > Installation & Upgrades -> SAP NetWeaver ->Release 04->

Installation-> SAP MI -> <Guide for particular SP>.

<<1. SAP WAS 6.40 SP 15 - any patches to be downloaded ?

>>

If you want to continue with SP 15 you dont have to download another patches.

Service Packs upto SP 19 are available right now..

<<

2. SAP MI - Server : SAP Xi 3.0, SP-15 - Is it possible to Configure with this Version?

>>

Ya , this is enough. You only have to configure.

<<

3. SAP MI - Client : PDA Win CE 2003

>>

Just go through these links inorder to set up the MI client device on PDA.

4. MDK Plug-In, available in NetWeaver Developer Studio - any

configurations should be done here ?

>>

Ya , inorder to develop MI front end applications, you should install the SP 15 or SP 13 NWD Studio and install the MI client for Laptop(Win32) on the same machine where u have already installed the Developer Studio.

j2sdk 1.4.2_07 is enough.

<<

6. MS SQL Server 2000 - Is this supported ?

>>

I think , this is the database for your XI server installation.

<<

7. SAP R/3 - This will be linked with Mobile Web Dynpro & BAPIs/RFCs

Hi Maran,

I just want to add two points from Kishor's reply.

Since your client in a <b>PDA Win CE 2003</b>

<b>5. Java virtual machine - What is the supported Version ?</b>

The supported version is Creme 3.27a, which uses JDK 1.1.8.

<b>6. MS SQL Server 2000 - Is this supported ?</b>

In the client the only db that is supported is IBM db2E.

Let me know if you have any further queries.

Best Regards,

Karthik
