HTTPS is a secure protocol and should be required when supplying password information.

Just a point.
Would it not better to only encrypt the password entry pages and not the whole site. You find that if you encrypt the whole site then the site performance normally goes downhill.
Take for example amazon, the only pages that are secure are the credit card entry pages. They specify only these pages as SSL encrypted, and these pageas are re-directed to the secure port.
