Dialog instance installation error

Former Member

Hi

i am trying to install a new dialog instance in my R/3 4.7 Enterprise (win 2003/Oracle 920). The production system is a cluster with a db server and a Central Instance.

Now i am trying to add a new dialog instance on a new server. However, in sapinst, after i insert the following oracle database system information:

host id=***

host= ***

DB server version= 920

client version=102 (this is the only option sapinst gives me)

It then gives me the error

ERROR MDB-06168 Oracle is not installed on this host. Install Oracle before continuing.

However i have installed oracle client, and given the correct hostname of the database instace.

Does someone know why is this happening and give me a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Pedro

G'day Pedro,

When you are planning to go for Dialog instance before this we need to do some patch work...

1.) Add the entries in both HOST files \windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

2) Install up-to-date dynamic link libraries

3) Install the Oracle 9i database client software and Oracle patch set 9.2.0.4

4.) Copy the files sqlnet.ora, tnsnames.ora from the database server to the

corresponding directory on the database client.

5.)JDK version 1.3.1 minimum

6.)Preparing the SAPinst Installation

7.) Run SAPinst to install the dialog instance

This will help you out.

Thanks = points

Hi,

Once again check for Dialog Instance parameters u have given

1) Dialog Instance:

Instance number

Enter an instance number for the dialog instance. You can

specify a value from 0 to 97.

If more than one SAP instance is running on the same

host, these instances must be assigned different numbers.

2)Central Instance:

Instance number

Enter exactly the central instance number that you

have entered during the central instance installation.

3)Database:

Database SystemID

Enter exactly the name of the database instance

<DBSID> that you have entered during the central

instance installation.

4)Database: Host

Enter exactly the name of the database instance host

that you have entered during the central instance

installation.

It should work fine if u have given these things exactly ( hoping that u have given other parameters correctly

Please let me know if this works out for you
